The Threats Your Hardware Wallet Cannot Stop
A hardware wallet protects your private keys. It is excellent at that job. But many crypto threats happen before your hardware wallet is even involved — while you are browsing, copying addresses, or connecting to exchanges.
Clipboard Malware (Address Swapping)
This is one of the most dangerous and underestimated threats in crypto. You copy a Bitcoin address from an exchange. Malware silently replaces it with the attacker’s address. You paste and send — to the wrong wallet. Permanently.
This happens in milliseconds. You would never notice unless you checked the address character by character after pasting.

Keyloggers
Keyloggers record every keystroke on your computer. If you type your exchange password, a keylogger captures it. If you type your 2FA backup codes, captured. Some advanced keyloggers can even record screen content.
Hardware wallet users are partially protected (because the seed phrase never touches the computer), but exchange accounts, email, and other crypto-related services are fully exposed.
Phishing Site Detection
Modern antivirus suites include web protection that warns you when you are about to visit a known phishing site. Given that phishing is the number one way crypto is stolen, this layer of protection is extremely valuable.
Remote Access Trojans (RATs)
RATs give attackers remote control of your computer. They can watch your screen, control your mouse, and access your files. If a RAT is active while you are making a crypto transaction, the attacker can see everything — and potentially modify the transaction.
What to Look For in Antivirus for Crypto Users
Not all antivirus software is equal. For crypto security specifically, look for:
1. Real-time file scanning — catches malware before it executes
2. Web/phishing protection — blocks known scam sites
3. Clipboard monitoring — detects address-swapping malware
4. Low system impact — should not slow down your computer
5. Regular updates — new threats appear daily
